The Spanish Adventure
Sevilla
From 25.9.200 to 5.11.2000

After a two hours trip with AVE (Alta Velocidad Espanola) I arrived in Sevilla!!
I spent here four weeks getting known to:
the spanisch language, Sevillana, arabic art, roman art, cristian art, a lot of foreign students and Tinto de Verano.

This gigantic building is the cathedral of Sevilla.
One of the biggest cathedrals in the world.
La Giralda.
Now it is a part of the cathedral.
It was built by the Arabs and it was a part of a mosque.
Later the Crists collocated a pregnant Madonna (la Madonna embarazada) on top of it and built the cathedral around the original mosque.
La Giralda is a symbol of Sevilla.
This is a view from the inner court of the cathedral.
The Arabs used to have a lot of courts (Patios) with a lot of trees and springs in the middle.
La Giralda is also built from another material than the cathedral, since in the islamic religion people are not allowed to build with solid materials.
We climbed up the Giralda an enjoyed a view of the patio.
The panorama is marvelous.
In the middle one can recognize the arena, where the corida takes place.
A view in the "Patio de las naranjas", the court of the arabian fortress, "Los Reales Alcazares".
The Giralda seen from the "Patio de las naranjas" mentioned in the picture above.
The gardens of the "Reales Alcazares".
Casa del Ayuntamiento, Stadthaus.
The style of the facade is called "plateresk".
This name comes from the technics used to make sculptures of plating.
Guadalquivir, the river of Sevilla.
The name comes from the arabic:
guada=river, al=article, quivir=big
->The big river.
After the discovery of America, the ships coming from the ocean could sail on the Guadalquivir upwards till Sevilla and unload their goods there.
Waiting for the start of the corrida.
In the Corrida de toros six bulls are killed.
Plaza de Espana.
The Plaza de Espana is a huge monument.
It is one of the most beautifull squares.
In the evening: Sevillana.
In the "Casa Anselma" it was possible to admire the most popular dance and entertainment of Sevilla.
Two women dancing Sevillana.
It is a very lively atmosphere.
This is my spanish class.
In the middle: Fatima.
I would like to thank the language scholl "CLIC" in sevilla for the excellent teaching and cultural program.
Excursion: Ronda
Excursion: Ronda
El puente romano.
This bridge is 2000 years old and it still holds.
It was constructed to connect to hills.
